This is a personal study focused on the media franchise I created called ‘Folklore’. It takes inspiration from many other media franchises such as, Pokemon, Yugioh, Magic the Gathering, and Digimon.
I used other trading card designs like Pokemon, Yugioh, Cardfight!! Vanguard, Digimon and Magic the Gathering as my moodboard. When I was looking at these other trading cards I noticed that they always put too much information in such a small amount of space, and the design was hurting from that. I wanted Folklore to be easy to read and pick-up and play so minimalism was a priority.
The last half of the Folklore project was to create a booster pack for the cards. Similar to what I did with the card design, I bought some booster packs to use as a reference when designing. The toughest challenge I faced when working on the booster pack was doing the UV wrap. It was one of my first few times using that feature, and it took me a while but I’m glad with the final result.
